Poetry for Friday

Taking a break for the weekend. Husband deploys on Monday for 7 months.  I don't think he'll phrase his farewell quite this way, but here's one valedictory:

To Lucasta, On Going to the Wars
       by Richard Lovelace (1618-1658)

Tell me not, Sweet, I am unkind
That from the nunnery
Of thy chaste breast and quiet mind,
To war and arms I fly.

True, a new mistress now I chase,
The first foe in the field;
And with a stronger faith embrace
A sword, a horse, a shield.

Yet this inconstancy is such
As you too shall adore;
I could not love thee, dear, so much,
Loved I not honor more.

We'll also celebrate my second grader's first sacrament of reconciliation Saturday.

Ooh, so lovely! I will hold you and your family in my prayers during this time of distance.

Oh wow, seven months. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

I passed this on to my son who is in the National Guard and he liked it very much.
